Routine Dental Treatments

Dental Treatments – Preventative Services

At Kingscourt Dental our main aim is to prevent oral disease before it has a chance to occur. With our thorough examination for every patient, we carry out a 10+ point check of the mouth to include checking for tooth decay, gum disease, oral ulcerations, lip/oral lesions, muscle tenderness, pigmentations, oral cancer screening, joint discomfort, lymph node and glandular issues. Prevention is the key to our patients entering into a ‘maintenance phase’ where they are in control of their own oral hygiene and health and have a customised preventative plan to help them in the future to minimise the need for complicated and expensive treatments.

Oral Cancer Screening

During your routine dental examination the dentist at Kingscourt Dental Practice will screen every patient for signs of oral cancer. Oral cancer can be spotted even in its earliest stages by your dentist. As it can affect any person of any age it is important to attend regular dental check-ups. Ask your dentist for more information.

Fissure Sealants

A simple but highly effective measure of preventing tooth decay. It takes a matter of minutes to do and can last for years. There is no drilling needed to place the fissure sealant that forms a hard protective layer over the tooth surface that prevents food and bacteria sticking in the pits of the teeth and causing decay. Ask your dentist for more information.

Fillings

Fillings are used by the dentist to prevent pain and further complications in a tooth that has already decayed. There are a various number of materials that can be used to fill a tooth and your dentist can discuss with you the types and costs of which ones are appropriate in each individual case. At Kingscourt Dental we pride ourselves in keeping up to date with the latest in filling technologies in an effort to provide those fillings that are easily placed, maintained and long-lasting.

Teeth cleaning, gum hygiene treatments and fresh breath sessions

Teeth cleaning is a simple way of improving your smile and confidence while also being extremely important for gum health. The dentist in Kingscourt Dental Practice will be able to provide a home care routine individually tailored to your needs. A clean healthy mouth will improve your appearance, give you fresher breath and help you keep your teeth for longer. Ask your dentist for more information.

Root Canal Treatment

This procedure is often used as a treatment measure to prevent tooth loss. Root Canal Treatment is individual to each tooth type and also can vary from person to person with regards to the ease of treatment and potential complications. This treatment has been given a bad reputation for being painful however we are pleased to say that most of our patients will say that root canal treatment carried out by Kingscourt Dental was never as bad as they thought it would be. Please ask your dentist for a copy of Kingscourt Dental information sheet on Root Canal Treatments.

Grinding Splints

Clenching and grinding is a common habit affecting many of the population. While often this can go unnoticed for many years, occasionally this presents as a variety of symptoms – headaches, clicking joint, teeth wear, restoration fractures. The dentist can assist in the alleviation of these symptoms by showing those affected appropriate exercises and also by using a night time splint therapy to lessen the severity of the habit and protect the teeth. Ask your dentist for more information.

Sportsguard

These work by cushioning a blow to the mouth that could result in tooth, bone or soft tissue injury during a sports activity – football, rugby, camogie, martial arts. It is particularly important to have a custom made mouthguard by your dentist to ensure comfort and full coverage protection. Ask your dentist for more information.
